May eager to bounce back

Alfie May believes Rovers will dust themselves down quickly after being knocked out of the Checkatrade Trophy.

A 4-2 defeat to Notts County at Meadow Lane was enough for the Magpies to progress at Rovers’ expense, and May says the dressing room was a disappointed one.

He said: “Everyone is gutted with the result, we wanted to go far in the competition but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.

"We keep saying the same things but it’s down to us to keep working hard and put things right.

“It’s a shame because we started the season really well, we have the quality within the group to turn things around but it needs to be sooner rather than later.”

May scored twice in the game to give Rovers hope, but says that doesn’t mean much given the end result.

He added: “It’s a team game, I’m happy to get my two goals but I’m kicking myself for not getting another which could have got us through.

“I get annoyed at myself if I miss a chance, but I won’t dwell on it too much because our next game is coming up quickly.

“As a striker the training ground is a good place to try new things, I will be working between now and Saturday on taking my chances when they come along.”
