McCann full of praise for May

Grant McCann praised striker Alfie May after his four goals helped Rovers to a 7-0 victory over Chorley in the Emirates FA Cup.

May took his tally to nine for the season in the game against the Magpies, and the manager was pleased to see him continue his good run of form in the cup competitions.

He said: “Alfie was brilliant and has a good record when he plays, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves at times as his finishing and movement is very good.

“He’s done it in all of the games he’s played, he always seems to be amongst the goals or look a threat against opposing defences.

“We’ve got a front three who will run in behind people and I’ve told the other players to make sure the passes are quick and decisive.”

Rovers were 5-0 up after just 36 minutes at the Keepmoat Stadium, and McCann was happy with the ruthlessness of the team going forward.

He added: “We altered our shape a little bit to try and cause their defence problems, we knew our pace would hurt them and it worked for us.

“Credit to Chorley, they are flying high in the league and I’m sure that is their priority but they gave it everything in both games against us.

“I felt as if this score-line was coming regardless of who we were up against, we’ve only had one defeat in our last four so hopefully we’ve turned a corner.”
