Manager Grant McCann was pleased with his side’s reaction to going behind as they drew 2-2 with National League North side Chorley in the Emirates FA Cup first round.
Rovers went behind twice at Victory Park with Herbie Kane striking both times to get them back on level terms, and McCann says he was aware of how tough a test the Magpies would prove to be ahead of the match.
“Chorley is a tough place to come and we knew that before we came here, it was packed, the fans were on us, and credit goes to them because they gave us a really good game, we made it difficult straight away by conceding but the lads have dug in,” he said.
“I thought their keeper was outstanding throughout the game, we created a lot of chances especially in that second half, and for him to get their man of the match says a lot about that really.
“They’re a big team and they were happy to put a lot of balls into the box, they worked on their set plays, but I was pleased with the reaction of the players after going behind because we knew it wouldn’t be easy.”
