McCann sings Rovers' praises after display at Barnsley

Manager Grant McCann felt his side deserved more than they came away with following Saturday's 1-1 draw against South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers took the lead at Oakwell through Herbie Kane's header seven minutes after the break, before Cauley Woodrow equalised 10 minutes later, and McCann felt his team were the better of the two.

"We wanted to make sure that we were on the front foot from the off, I thought the midfield three were outstanding in terms of winning the ball, helping us to break forward, and I think we're unfortunate to come in at 1-1 at the end of the day," he said.

"We had some very good spells throughout the game, but we were just a bit too loose when we got into the final third and looked for the final pass, but I said to the boys at the break just to concentrate and that's what they did straight away.

"I thought we played very well but we're all frustrated that we haven't come away from it with three points, I think our performance typified what we're about as a team really, we wanted to come here and attack Barnsley and we did just that."

The draw leaves Rovers just two points off the play-off positions, sitting eighth in the League One table, and McCann believes his side are capable of climbing into the top six.

"We just need everything to click for us now, we have to keep on believing in ourselves and those results will keep on coming, if people want to write you off that's no problem, use it as fuel to keep on going, there's still a long way to go and we're still learning," he added.
