McCann stresses home importance

Manager Grant McCann has backed his side to get back to winning ways when they face AFC Wimbledon on Saturday in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers are without a win in six games in all competition, and with Saturday’s visitors to the Keepmoat Stadium having a temporary boss in charge for the game, McCann says the set-up and the aim for his team remains the same, regardless of who’s in control of the Dons.

“They might have a new manager in their dugout, but I’m only focused on what we do come Saturday, we don’t know who’s going to play, what style or system they’ll use, the new man will always have different ideas, but we will set up to go out and win,” he said.

“We have to make sure that we get our bits right and then hopefully we can go out and get the result we’ve been looking for, we’ve got some big games at home and it’s important that we get wins from them.

“We know what problems we’ve had from set pieces as of late, I think the first 12 games we didn’t really concede any goals from those situations, but we’ve worked hard in training ahead of Saturday so we’re expecting much better.

Despite a recent dip in form, Rovers remain just three points off the play-offs following their bright start to the campaign, and McCann believes this week’s hard work in training has picked his side back up again.

“I said to the group that we’re heading towards Christmas and we’re three points off the play-offs, I think that changed their mindset a little bit, they’ve had a pick up, and this can be a new start for us and we can turn the corner,” he added.

“Everyone knows their job within the team, confidence has maybe taken a dip of late, but we’ve got a really good week of work behind us now and I think a lot of the boys have really had a great lift.

“We have to make sure we’re concentrated on every set piece at either end of the pitch, we know how important they are and if we get that right, you change little bits, then we can get back on a run and these fixtures, we believe, can see us go on a run.”
