Tom Anderson says Rovers will be ready for the test ahead when they host Grimsby Town in the second of three group games in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Rovers host the Mariners looking for their first win in the competition this season, and Anderson believes the side will set up well to get their first three points in Group G.

“Grimsby will provide a tough test for us, they’re in decent form lately, I know a few of the lads there and I worked with the manager a bit at Burnley too, he’ll not make it easy for us, they’re well organised and we’ll have to make sure we’re ready,” he said.

“We have a way that the manager wants us to play, the gaffer wants us to be aggressive and make sure that we’re on the front foot and be nice and tidy on the ball, we have to make sure that we play the game well and take control.

“Playing with the high tempo that we do is such a massive part of the way we play as a team, I think it’s shown at times in games where we’ve caught teams off-guard, now we have to keep that going and we’ll keep getting better.”

Anderson has made four appearances this season, including Rovers’ first Checkatrade Trophy game against Newcastle United, and he like others in the side will be looking to make an impression on the manager should the defender feature against the Mariners.

“We’ve played 12 games and we’ve been great defensively on the whole, Andy and Joe have been playing really well, I just have to bide my time and then be ready when the gaffer calls on me to come into the side,” he added.

“I’m just sticking to what I’m good at and working hard every day in training, you have to make sure you’re doing the right things, that’s where your professionalism comes into play, you just have to work hard day in, day out, and then be ready whenever.

“Every time you play you have a great chance to impress the manager, I have to make sure I take that opportunity and play well, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is the result and we’re looking to get the win.”
