Matty Blair says competition for places in the Rovers squad has been key to their good start to the season.

Rovers are sixth in Sky Bet League One ahead of a trip to Rochdale on Saturday, and the midfielder says the squad are in confident mood.

He said: “There is a lot of competition for places and that drives people on, we need to be performing all over the park otherwise somebody else will come in.

“You can see with the quality of performances that nobody wants to dip in levels, because they want to stay in the team.

“We’ve learnt a lot in the past week or so, mainly about the character within the squad which will hopefully help us get the result at Rochdale.”

Having faced Rochdale four times in all competitions last season, Blair says Rovers know what to expect from Keith Hill’s side.

He added: “They don’t tend to change, we played them quite a lot last season and they always press well and put you under pressure.

“I think teams should have a game plan to stop us playing, as a team we have to adapt to that to get the right result.

“We have to turn up knowing it’s going to be a battle, if we match that then hopefully our quality will show.”

Rovers' next home game at the Keepmoat Stadium is against Gillingham on Saturday October 20. Tickets are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
