Mason believing in Rovers

Niall Mason believes a shift in mentality has been key to Rovers challenging at the top end of the Sky Bet League One table this season.

Grant McCann’s side are 12 points better off than at the same stage last season, and Mason says there is a lot of belief within the squad.

He said: “I think it’s been a good start, we’re probably still a couple of points short of where we want to be but that shows how far we have come.

“It says a lot about the shift in mentality that we’re in the play-off places but we’re still disappointed that we’re not even higher.

“The belief has grown a lot over the past few months and that is down to the start we’ve had, the manager has made sure we’re aware of how good we can be.”

Mason has started every league game for Rovers so far in the 2018/19 campaign, and feels he has added some consistency into his game from the right-back position.

He added: “I’m enjoying having a settled position, I’m always happy to play anywhere for the team but it’s nice to be able to focus on one position.

“There is a bit more balance to the team now that Danny Andrew is fully fit at left-back, and I can concentrate on doing my job on the right.

“I’ve really enjoyed the system, it requires us to do a lot of work and take on a lot of responsibility, which can only improve us as individuals.”

Rovers are back in action on Saturday October 20 when they host Gillingham in Sky Bet League One. Get your tickets now at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
