Niall Mason feels having a fixed position has allowed him to focus on improving his game this season.
The 21-year-old was used in a number of positions throughout his first two seasons with Rovers, but has been a mainstay at right-back during the current campaign.
He said: “As a young player breaking through you often have a chance by filling in in different positions, and then it’s down to you to secure a position.
“I’m enjoying the right back role especially with the way we play, it requires my fitness levels to the high but I feel that is improving me as a player.
“I’ve said before that it has helped to have a fixed position, you can be a bit more adventurous and push yourself.”
Rovers face Sunderland on Tuesday night looking to extend their impressive start to the season, and Mason believes they will be up for the challenge.
He added: “We’ve come up against the other top teams and got some good results, we could have even beaten the top two.
“There will be a big crowd, they are bringing a few but it’s good to see our fans have sold a few tickets as well.
“It will be a big game, we’re in a similar position in the league, and both teams will want the points to allow them to kick-on.”
Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on Sunderland on Tuesday October 23, with tickets available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
