Manager Grant McCann praised the character of his squad following their 3-2 victory on the road at Rochdale in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.

Rovers returned to winning ways in the league following back-to-back defeats with the win at the Crown Oil Arena, and McCann felt his side dealt with everything that was thrown at them.

“The boys were outstanding, it’s never as plain or as simple as you think, we have to dig in no matter who we play every week, Rochdale is a difficult place to go, it’s one of the toughest places in the league to come, so we knew what we were coming in to,” he said.

“We had to deal with the elements and I think that we did that well, it wasn’t a day to maybe play our fluent best, but we scored three and they scored two, and that’s the main thing at full-time, we’ve responded now we’re back on track.

“Paul Gerrard said in the dressing room after the game that he’s been at the club five years and he’s seen previous teams come here and concede to lose or draw the game late on, I think the result here shows the character in this squad.”

Goals from Ali Crawford, Andy Butler and Jermaine Anderson saw Rovers collect three points at the Crown Oil Arena, and McCann was quick to single out his goal-scoring trio, particularly Crawford and Anderson following their first goals for the club.

“I’m really pleased for the lads that got on the scoresheet today, I’m pleased for Ali to score after a great bit of play, also Andy Butler because he’ll tell you himself he’s not been at his best really either so that’ll boost his confidence too,” he added.

“The deliveries for all the goals from James Coppinger were outstanding, especially for the third one, the build up for that was great to see, it was a good run from Jermaine and it was a great ball in from Copps to set it up.

“For Jermaine, I think that’s his first goal in nearly two years possibly, he’s had a tough time with injuries recently, but he looked really strong when he came on, I knew I’d have to share the game between him and Ali, but they were both superb.”

Rovers' next home game at the Keepmoat Stadium is against Gillingham on Saturday October 20. Tickets are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
