Club Doncaster Foundation's Fit Rovers project raised £450 at the Nidge Roe Family Fun Day last Sunday.

A day of activity including a football match with Doncaster Rovers legends and a huge Rovers themed raffle were hosted at Armthorpe Welfare to celebrate Nidge's life after his sudden death in August.

The funds raised will go towards the futures of Nidge's sons Aaron and Ryan, who both played in the 11-a-side game.

Fit Rovers course facilitator Scott Copeland said: "Nidge was instrumental to our community and we were all heartbroken by the sudden news back in August: I hope the family fun day was a reflection of what a wonderful bloke he was.

"It was great to see a host of organisations come together to celebrate his life, I know that he was an important part of all of them. We have to thank Armthorpe Welfare for providing the facilities and Wheatley Wanderers for giving the Fit Rovers lads a good game.

"We have to, of course, thank Simon Marples, Tim Ryan, Jan Budtz, Ricky Ravenhill. Paul Green and Leo Fortune-West for their appearances too, they are the heroes for the Fit Rovers generation and they don't know just how instrumental their support it. It shows what a fantastic family we have at Club Doncaster."

Tim Ryan added: "Doncaster Rovers is a massive part of some people's lives and the family ethos of the club is evident, it was great to get the boots back out with them and play for such a fantastic cause.

"We're all really proud of how the community came together and so pleased with the amount we raised for Aaron and Ryan."

Ryan, Marples, Budtz and Ravenhill all played in the large 11-a-side game alongside Fit Rovers participants, who shared their journey with Nidge.

They played against Wheatley Wanderers, the side Nidge managed and whom his two young sons play for.

Nidge was on the board of governors at Armthorpe Welfare, managed Wheatley Wanderers junior football team, volunteered at Retro Rovers walking football sessions and was a valued member of Club Doncaster Foundation's Fit Rovers project.
