Paul Stancliffe was full of praise for his strikers after they all scored in the U18s’ 5-2 thrashing of South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Myron Gibbons netted a hat-trick while fellow forwards Jack Watson and Rieves Boocock also got themselves on the scoresheet with second-half strikes..

Stancliffe said: “I thought we were always a threat, the front three were brilliant today, they were always a threat and they deserved the goals they got between them. The difference between the sides was we took our chances and they didn’t.

“Myron is brilliant, and he knows this because I’ve had a chat with him, he’s not been quite the same over the past two or three games but today he was like the Myron of old.

“He was full of energy going forward and also tracking players back at the other end, and he’s thoroughly deserved his hat-trick.”

Stancliffe was also pleased to see his side show good character, after finding themselves a goal down just after half-time.

He added: “We were a little disappointed to concede, we felt we dominated the first-half, we had chances to score more before they went in front.

“After we rode their storm at the start of the second-half I feel we did really well. It did get a bit scrappy with it being a local derby, and thankfully we won the battle.”
