Ben Whiteman is looking forward to returning to the Rovers squad for the game against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

The midfielder missed the win against Plymouth after collecting five yellow cards, and says the suspension came at a frustrating time for him.

He said: “Plymouth is a tough place to go and it was a good performance from the boys, I was cheering them on in front of the TV.

“It was strange and it’s not something I’d experienced in a while, I wanted to be out there but circumstances meant I couldn’t be.

“I wouldn’t say any of my yellow cards have been for anything nasty, they were mainly stopping counter attacks when we were struggling for numbers.”

Whiteman has been a standout figure for Rovers so far in the 2018/19 campaign, and is enjoying working with manager Grant McCann.

He added: “It’s been mainly the same team for the past few weeks and we’ve got some good results during that period.

“I’m the deepest of the midfield three most of the time but the manager still gives me the license to get forward.

“I’m pleased with how I’ve done, I have people around me who are doing well so I’m really enjoying my football.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on Fleetwood Town on Saturday October 6, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
