Ben Whiteman says Rovers have added a ruthless edge to their play which has enabled them to climb the Sky Bet League One table.

They have won games in different ways and came from two goals down to earn a point with Gillingham last time out.

He said: “The ruthless edge has been a progression with our development, we didn’t do too well last season in terms of league position so we wanted to improve on that.

“You’ve got to do what’s necessary at times, we’ve had a couple of players now pick up a suspension for five yellow cards but we’ve won games while doing that.

“At the end of the day we’re doing well in the league so nobody is too bothered about it, we don’t want to take that side out of our game.”

Rovers take on play-off chasing Sunderland at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night, with both sides going into the game on the back of good starts to the season.

He added: “They are a good team and were in the Premier League not too long ago, they’ve had difficulties off the pitch but their fans are sticking by them.

“We always look forward to playing at home no matter who we’re up against, it’s an enjoyable place to play your football especially when we’re winning games.

“Everyone is coming into work with a smile on their face, so the mood we’re in we want to go into every game and take the three points on offer.”
