Women at the game event at Gillingham fixture

17 October 2018

Join Doncaster Rovers for an alternative girls day out this weekend as they take on Gillingham Football Club at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday October 20.

Women At The Game is a national initiative, introduced by football supporter Jacqui Forster, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2015. Jacqui, who spent her career advocating fan causes through her work with Supporters Direct, started Women at the Game as a legacy project.

The idea behind the campaign is a simple one. Jacqui said:  “Women enjoy doing things and going to places together. Watching sports events is just one of the things I like to do and I know that it isn’t so good on my own and that women just would not consider going on their own. So I thought I’d set something up to help women to make new friends and enable groups to grow, to watch live sport together in a comfortable, easy, organised group.”

Jacqui passed away early this year, only days after Rovers’ first Women at the Game fixture against Bury FC in 2017/18, but her memory is being honoured and WATG continues.

Rovers are working with Doncaster Mumbler, an online parenting community to host this event. There will be a Mumbler meeting point at the stadium, in the family stand before the match. Donny Dog’s kennel will be open, with free face painting, colouring, crafts and the chance to meet and have a photo taken with Donny Dog.

Flip Out Doncaster will be the meeting point for those ladies not wishing to travel to the stadium alone, where children can have lunch and play while the grown-ups have a coffee. The party will then be travelling to the stadium together by bus.

Tickets will be available for a discounted rate of £10 for women and £2 for children (when signing up to Donny’s Squad).

For anybody who would rather watch the game in luxury, Doncaster Rovers are also offering a hospitality option for only £25+ VAT, or £15 + VAT for kids.

This includes a match ticket, a car parking space, a one-course meal in the Legends Club, a matchday programme and team sheet as well as a glass of bubbly on arrival.
