Alex Kiwomya hopes playing for Rovers Development side will help him to force his way into manager Grant McCann’s plans.

The striker netted in the 3-2 win over Grimsby Town in Central League North on Wednesday, and says the games are good for first-teamers who haven’t featured much in the league so far.

He said: “I think I’m expected to get goals in these types of games and I expect it of myself so it’s a confidence booster.

“You can’t get that match sharpness from just training, I’ve been going in on my days off to make sure I’m in the best possible shape.

“I need to keep working to show the manager the determination I’ve got to be playing for the first-team.”

Kiwomya was the main point of attack in a Rovers front-three at Blundell Park, and was keen to show the management team what he can do in that position.

He added: “I grew up playing on the wing and the gaffer has come in and sees me in that position, they know I can make runs in behind to cause problems.

“It was a good game, it’s good to get some minutes under my belt as I haven’t had too much game time recently.

“It’s hard when you’re not playing but it’s about having the mentality to play and do well in these types of games.”
