John Marquis has been happy with the start he has made to the 2018/19 campaign, while still looking to improve his goal tally.

The No.9 has netted five times in all competitions so far, meaning he is now just four short of reaching 50 goals for the club.

He said: “I’ve played a lot of games and haven’t missed many through injury, every game I’ve been fit for I’ve played in over the past couple of seasons.

“It makes me proud because I take care in looking after my body to make sure I am available, so to be knocking on the door of 50 goals so quickly is a good achievement for me.

“I won’t be sitting back and relaxing because I want to get to 50 goals in all competitions, and then 50 in the league as soon as I can.”

Rovers sit fifth in Sky Bet League One ahead of the Yorkshire derby against Bradford City this weekend, and Marquis says there is still plenty of room for improvement in the squad.

He added: “We need to add that last bit of quality in terms of balls into the box and finishing product on the end of them.

“As a team we’ve done fairly well, there have been games where we picked up more points than we deserve, but then others where we haven’t won when we should have.

“The games against Portsmouth and Peterborough were ones we should have taken three points from, but then may have been fortunate to beat Southend and Luton so it’s levelled itself out.”
