Marquis: We deserved more

John Marquis felt a point was the least Rovers deserved after the 1-1 draw with Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One.

The striker opened the scoring at London Road, before Ryan Tafazolli’s leveller earnt Steve Evans’ side a share of the spoils.

He said: “It says a lot that we’ve come to a team that have won five in a row and we’re disappointed with a draw.

“We played really well and I can’t remember them having too many chances, we just needed to get the second goal while we were ahead.

“The keeper made a couple of good saves and we hit a post, we’ve had enough chances but just couldn’t find the finish.”

Rovers were the first team to take points from Peterborough in the 2018/19 campaign, and Marquis believes they can take the positives from that.

He added: “We knew they would show a reaction and they changed their shape at half-time, but we didn’t let it get to us too much.

“We want to improve and keep getting better, we’re never happy with a draw no matter how we play because we all want to win.

“If anything it is a wake-up call for us in terms of how good we are as a team, we’ve played Peterborough and Portsmouth recently and could have won both games.”

Rovers are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium when Newcastle United U21 visit in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday September 4. Book your place now at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
