Manager Grant McCann says the hard work his team has put in so far is starting to pay dividends in the early part of the Sky Bet League One season.

Rovers sit in joint third in the table after eight league games, and McCann believes the way his side are playing shows they have the desire to maintain their push towards the top end of the table this season.

“We want to compete against the best teams in this league and I think the confidence that they are getting from the start is showing that they can do just that, we’ll keep going and keep working hard and hopefully our quality will show,” he said.

“I think where we are in the table is recognition for the hard work we’ve put in so far, we have a really good group of players here, there’s a great structure in place at this club and we’ve added our touch and I hope we can carry it on.

“There’s no reason why we can’t get into the top six, our aim is to try and do the best that I can, if it is top six then that’s okay, but we should be pushing higher than that, we know we’re close but there’s a lot more to come.”

Rovers host Yorkshire rivals Bradford City at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday having gone the season unbeaten at home so far in the league, and McCann feels a strong home record can help them to go a long way this campaign.

“I think it’s important that if you want to do well then you have to have a good home record, we want to bring as many fans to the Keepmoat Stadium as possible, good performances and good results will bring just that,” he added.

“We’ve created a lot of chances throughout the season, we’re playing in a very positive way, we’re getting forward and we want to keep this run going now, we’re only getting better and stronger, but we know we have a tough game coming up.

“The boys love playing here, it’s a great place to come and play your football, the fans get behind you too, we’ve had a good start here so far in the league, we’ve won two and drawn two, now we want to get some more wins under our belts here that’s for sure.”
