Rovers Academy graduate Danny Amos made his international debut when he joined up with the Northern Irish U21s squad last week. Amos and the U21s travelled to Marbella for a week-long training camp which included friendlies against Mexico and Bulgaria.

Amos made his U21s debut in the second friendly of the week which was against Mexico U22. The match ended in a 1-0 win for the Irish team making it six wins in a row for the young side.

Speaking after returning from Spain, the 19-year-old left-back admitted making his international debut was a dream come true.

“I was delighted just to be named in the squad again. I knew it would be a new group and a few new faces so I was prepared for that but when my name was called out in the starting XI, I was buzzing and couldn’t wait to play the game.

“One of the best things about international camp is that you get to experience different types of coaching methods and get to play with different players. It is a massive learning curve for me and I have to keep believing in myself and doing what I can do to give myself the biggest chance to get in the U21s team and then the mens team.”

Amos is currently on loan at national league team Hartlepool United and said that the international camp offered a change from league duties.

“It was nice to have a break from the league - who wouldn’t want to spend a week in Marbella playing football? But it was still time to work and focus and do everything I could to get in the starting XI and impress the gaffer Ian Baraclough.

“I am enjoying my time at Hartlepool a lot, I'm learning a lot and the players and coaching staff have been great with me. For me the experience of being on loan is about pushing myself and showing the coaches why I should be in the team. Hopefully I can kick on and push for the left back spot next year. Overall, I have enjoyed my loan so far and am really enjoying my football both in Hartlepool and at Northern Ireland.”
