Andy Butler says the Rovers squad are embracing the opportunity to secure their spot in the Sky Bet League One play-off places.

Five games of the regular season remain, and the club captain believes most clubs would like to be in their position.

He said: “We’re in sixth position but we feel like some of our performances merit being higher, we’ve maybe just not turned some of them into results over the course of the campaign.

“We are where we are for a reason, being sixth in a league with 24 strong sides shows how much we have progressed.

“At this stage of the season I think any team would prefer to have points on the board rather than relying on a game in hand.”

Rovers face a Plymouth side next up who are still looking to secure their own safety, and Butler says the team have found a way to win games in different ways.

He added: “We’ve been to Bradford and really had to grind it out, they played well and we had some defending to do but managed to find a way to get the win.

“We’ve seen how tough it can be going up against teams who are fighting for their lives, anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“We’ll give anyone we come up against the respect they deserve, but we’ll also have that confidence that we’re in the top six for a reason.”

The full interview will be available in Saturday's matchday programme which can be purchased from around the stadium for just £3.
