Cliff Byrne has said Herbie Kane and John Marquis’ inclusion in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Year is a credit to the whole first-team squad.
Marquis has also been shortlisted for League One Player of the Year alongside Luton Town’s James Collins, and Sunderland’s Aiden McGeady. The shortlist and team was compiled after all 72 EFL managers were invited to vote for their players of the season.
“We have a fantastic group of players, they work hard every day, their application and appetite is second to none and as a result of that different individuals get various accolades,” Byrne said.
“Herbie Kane and John Marquis have been excellent for us individually this year so we’re all really pleased to see them nominated. As staff, we probably feel that we should have one or two more in the team of the year.
“John is a terrific character and is fabulous for this football club, he’s made a massive contribution this year. People always look at the goals he scores but you look at everything else he does and he’s been absolutely fantastic. The number of goals he has to date is high in the league and he’s fully focused on making this team successful this season.”
