Herbie Kane believes Good Friday’s trip to Sunderland could prove to be one of Rovers’ biggest games this season.

Rovers travel to Wearside to face the Black Cats who themselves are going in search of promotion from Sky Bet League One this season, and Kane says the showdown at the Stadium of Light is a good opportunity for the side to prove they can be right up there.

“We want to carry on doing well and get to where we wanted to be at the start of the season, Friday will be a massive game for us, not just in the crowd that we’ll be up against but the actual match will be huge for us,” he said.

“It’s a big one for both teams, it should be a good game, a great atmosphere, the atmosphere won’t get to me personally, it’ll help me more than anything, so I’m really looking forward to it, just the fact it’s in front of potentially 40,000 makes it all the more exciting.

“Sunderland are a very good side and they showed that when we played them at home earlier on in the year, we could have won that game ourselves, but I think there are areas where we can dig at and exploit and it could provide the platform for a very good game.”

Kane returned to the Rovers starting line-up in Saturday’s 2-0 win at home to Plymouth Argyle after a short spell out with injury, and after being named in the League One Team of the Year, the man on loan from Liverpool says he wants to repay the manager’s faith in him with a successful end to the season.

“I’ve worked hard to get back and I’m buzzing to get back into the side, I said it before that I never expected to play as many times as I have done this season, I’m grateful for that and I want to make sure we finish strongly,” he added.

“Since I’ve come here, everyone has been great to me, Liverpool wanted me to come in, get some experience and try and influence things here, I think the fact we’ve been doing well has really helped, but I’ve loved every minute since I joined.

“I’ve got a few goals and assists and I’m happy to have contributed to getting us into this play-off mix, I want to help the team as much as I can hopefully now we can get the job done and go all the way.”
