Goals from Will Longbottom and Rieves Boocock (x2) secured a comfortable 3-1 victory for Rovers Development over Rotherham U23s on Tuesday.
Rovers got off to a blistering start. Boocock had already forced an excellent save from the Rotherham ‘keeper before Longbottom broke the deadlock inside five minutes. Rotherham hit back quickly, levelling the score after just 20 minutes with Palmer curling a free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards.
Boocock cut in from the right and finished smartly to regain Rovers’ lead just before the break.
Rovers started the second half at the same pace as the first. Max Watters and Boocock both went close before Boocock got his second and the teams third. The young striker took the ball around the goalkeeper and last defender to finish calmly past the keeper.
Rovers continued to dominate the game, with Rotherham’s shot-stopper the home side’s star as he kept out further efforts from Boocock and Watters just before the final whistle.
