Goals from Nathan Dimou and Lirak Hasani secured three points as Rovers U18s came from behind to beat 10-man Huddersfield Town as they close in on the Youth Alliance League title.

Sam Sharrock-Peplow controlled the show upfront for the visitors – early on he went close to scoring but Rovers' keeper Ben Bottomley wasn’t being beaten and pulled off a great save to his near post.

Down the opposite end, Elliott Walker found himself in a good position to shoot from distance as Giouse Bellagambi left his net open – the visiting keeper did manage to dash back to in his line in time to save.

Defender Nathan Dimou directed a headed effort just wide of the post as Rovers continued to struggle in front of goal.

On the brink of half-time Sharrock-Peplow curled an effort past Bottomley from around 25-yards, following a successful Terriers free-kick.

Straight into the second-half and Rieves Boocock had an opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot after AJ Greaves was fouled but his effort was saved by the stretching Bellagambi who dove correctly to his right-hand post.

Sharrock-Peplow then went from hero to zero for the visitors when he punched Rovers defender Ben Blythe before squaring up to Branden Horton – referee Christopher Rose gave the reckless teenager his marching orders.

Straight after the sending off, Rovers equalised as AJ Greaves provided a ball across the face of goal allowing the unlikely goal scorer of Nathan Dimou to pop-up and tuck home. Minutes after he almost had a brace when he headed over the bar from a corner.

Rovers turned the game on its head on the 81st minute as Lirak Hasani returned to the side from first-team duties to bundle an effort home after receiving a low cross from Boocock.

Paul Stancliffe’s team held on to the victory. Results elsewhere in the league mean Rovers remain one point ahead heading into the last match of the season an away trip to Notts County.
