Paul Stancliffe has praised U18s captain AJ Greaves for his performance in Rovers’ 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic.
The captain played an instrumental role in Rovers’ win which saw them remain top of the Youth Alliance division thanks to second-half goals from Elliott Walker and Rieves Boocock.
He said: “AJ’s got his pro-contract which was thoroughly deserve, with respect to the rest, I felt he was head and shoulders above the rest. He’s been that consistent for us all season which is really impressive.
“We’ve worked with Wack [Elliott] to help him get into attacking positions much like Danny Andrew and Matty Blair do in the first-team so it was pleasing to see his goal today.
The U18 manager gave credit to Oldham for making it difficult for his team in the first-half, but felt victory was fair after a strong second-half.
He added: “It was a good reaction after last weeks disappointment. It’s what me and Gary McSheffrey asked for in the changing rooms before kick-off.
“First-half I was a little bit concerned to be honest because they caused us too many problems but when we were in possession I felt we were okay.
“At half-time we tweaked one or two things and we got the rewards for that in the second-half as we played really well and got a deserved win.”
