Rovers fell to a 1-0 defeat in the first round of the Carabao Cup when they travelled to Blundell Park to face Sky Bet League Two Grimsby Town.
Rovers started brightly, penning the Mariners into their half and littering the goal with shots and efforts - the best of which fell to Kieran Sadlier who forced a good, full-length save from James McKeown.
Grimsby Town carried a threat on the break, however, and broke away in numbers on 40 minutes for Jordan Cook to finish the chance. Sadlier had another chance almost immediately which was met by another fantastic save. In the second half, Grimsby had shut up shop and while Rovers continued to dominate possession they couldn't make the pressure count.
