Darren Moore was left frustrated after watching his side bow out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening after defeat to Grimsby Town.
Rovers had looked the most likely but the home side's breakaway goal late in the first half would ultimately prove to be the only thing to separate the sides.
Moore said: “For the first 40 minutes of the game we were completely dominant, after that Grimsby changed their formation and sat in two banks of four because they couldn’t keep up with the speed we were playing at and the way we were moving the ball.
“It’s a credit to our players that Grimsby had to change their shape to try and contain us but as I said to the players, you’ve still got to find a way through.
“We created chances second half, Kieran Sadlier and Niall Ennis had a couple of chances and all were blocked. We’re disappointed with the result – we never want to lose a game but you’ve got to give Grimsby Town credit for that, they’ve put their bodies on the line and got the win.”
Rovers’ attention will now return to Sky Bet League One and Moore says his side will pick themselves up, dust themselves off and get ready for the visit of Fleetwood Town.
“I thought we dominated that game from start to finish – I’ve looked back at the stats with analyst and we can see we were totally dominant in all areas of the pitch it was just that finishing touch because we created enough chances to win two games really,” said Moore.
“I’ve said to the boys, the performance was there, the work rate and endeavour were there but we were missing that ruthlessness. We’ll be training that this week ahead of the weekend.
“We’ll look back on Tuesday’s game, review the performance then we’ll dust ourselves down and get ready to go again on Saturday.”
