Rovers U23s skipper Shane Blaney believes Wednesday’s Leasing.com Trophy match against Leicester City U21s will provide a good challenge.

The young Leicester side won all three of their group matches and despite being an academy side have a number of players with football league experience.

“I’m looking forward to the game against Leicester City U21s. It will be a good challenge,” said Blaney.

“Leicester will be a good team. They train every day together as an U23s squad and they’re not your normal U23s squad as they’re actually a bit older. It’s full of 21 and 22-year-olds rather than 17 and 18-year-olds.

“They’re a physical team with a good manager – it will be a good game.”

This season marks Blaney’s second full season with Rovers and he believes the Leasing.com Trophy gives him an opportunity to get closer to his aim of first team football.

"Last year, I got two games in this competition and I played against Rotherham this season, so it’s been brilliant. I’m delighted with any games and if I’m needed, I’ll be ready,” he added.

“I’m just trying to kick on and see how close I can get to the first team – so if the opportunity comes in these games, then I’ll be ready for it.”
