Coppinger expecting entertaining Posh clash

24 December 2019

James Coppinger is predicting an open game when Rovers travel to face Peterborough United on Boxing Day.

Rovers won the reverse fixture between the two sides 2-0 in September, and Coppinger believes they can take confidence from that.

He said: “It will be a fantastic game, it’s one between two teams that have got an identity and like to play.

“We did really well against them at home and did a job on them, and I know Darren Ferguson will have been hurt by that.

“I’m expecting a game that is full of energy and pressing, and we will have to go there and make sure that we’re at it.

After a frustrating run of results in Sky Bet League One, the club captain says the team need to be more clinical in front of goal.

He added: “We’ve lacked a bit of ruthlessness in front of goal in recent weeks, we’ve created the most chances in the league but we’re not putting them away.

“In the games that we’ve drawn or lost we’ve had enough opportunities to kill teams off so we need to be better at that.

“Training has been good this week and we’re looking forward to trying to win the game at Peterborough.”
