Darren Moore believes Wednesday’s match against Oxford United will be very different to the two previous matches Rovers have played.

Oxford currently sit second in Sky Bet League One and have recorded three straight wins to close the gap on league-leaders Wycombe Wanderers and Moore believes credit for their run should go to manager Karl Robinson.

“Karl has got a good football team and credit to him with where they are at the moment. They’ve had good recruitment and they’re showing some good form,” said Moore.

“Oxford are a wonderful footballing team and we here at Rovers are going to have to be at our best in terms of preparations for the match.

“It will be a good footballing match because of the players that they have. It will be very different to the game you saw on Boxing Day and on Sunday. Oxford will present their own threats and problems and will be another hurdle that we have to overcome.”

The match on New Year’s Day will be Rovers’ third in seven days and Moore says that the most important thing ahead of Oxford is managing the players’ recovery.

“We’ve got a quick turnaround and the only thing I’m looking at is the physicality and mentality of the players,” he added.

“Because of the three games in seven days, we have to look at the squad in terms of their levels. There have been some tough games against Peterborough and Sunderland so we’ll assess them before the Oxford match.

“The staff and I will look at the players available and the condition of the players and we’ll put out a team that will be ready to compete.”
