Rovers’ Development side were beaten 3-2 by Grimsby Town reserves in Central League North.

Two goals from Myron Gibbons weren't enough for Gary McSheffrey’s side who surrendered a two-goal lead at Cantley Park.

After a cagey opening to the game, Rovers took the lead from the penalty spot in the 29th minute after Gibbons was brought down in the area by Joe Starbuck. The young striker stepped up and converted confidently beyond Ollie Battersby.

Gibbons doubled his side’s lead four minutes after half-time, as he reacted first to calmly slot the ball home after two shots were blocked.

Rovers twice had chances to make it three, as Will Longbottom curled a free-kick wide before Branden Horton saw his effort cleared off the line with the keeper beaten.

Grimsby got themselves back in the game with fourteen minutes left, as Lennon Stead fired home from outside the area to give his side hope.

They were level two minutes later when central defender Ludvig Ohman found space from a corner and side footed beyond Ben Bottomley from 10 yards out.

The comeback was complete for the Mariners in the 86th minute when Stead tapped in after Bottomley had initially denied Harry Cardwell.
