Butler: It was good to get minutes in the Development team

Andy Butler says it was good to get some minutes for Rovers’ Development side in the win over Mansfield Town reserves.

The club captain played 90 minutes as John Schofield’s side secured a 1-0 victory, and he says the game time will ensure he’s ready for first-team action when called upon.

He said: “I love playing football and I’ve had to be patient recently, I’ve got no issues with that so it’s good to get some minutes.

“The two lads have done well at centre-back and we’ve had some good results, so there isn’t any reason to change it.

“I’ve been in football long enough now to know how quickly things can change, I’ll be ready when I’m needed.”

With Butler and Tommy Rowe both featuring in the game, the defender believes it was a good chance to pass on experience to some of the younger players.

He added: “We’ve got some young lads in the team and it was good to give advice to the likes of Shane Blaney and Branden Horton.

“They were both very good, overall we did well during the game even if we did lose our shape a little bit towards the end.

“They helped me through the game as well and it’s probably good for them to play with older players and demand off us.”

Rovers are back in action at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday March 2 when they host play-off rivals Charlton. Make sure you don't miss a moment by booking your place from the Club Doncaster Box Office on 01302 762576 or by going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
