Officials confirmed for Southend United

Anthony Backhouse is the man in charge of Tuesday evening’s Sky Bet League One match against Southend United. (Kick-off 7.45pm).

2018/19 marks Backhouse’s second season as an EFL referee. He spent three seasons in the National League before being promoted.

This will be the third Rovers match Backhouse has overseen and the first since January 2018. The first match was a 2-0 away defeat to Bradford in September 2017, the second a 2-2 draw away at Shrewsbury Town.

The man from Cumbria has awarded 82 yellow cards and five reds across 29 matches in the current campaign and has mostly taken charge of Sky Bet League Two and League One matches.

The highest number of a cards Backhouse has awarded in a single match this season is 7 in a 2-2 draw between Accrington Stanley and Lincoln City in the Checkatrade Trophy.  

Backhouse will be assisted by Barry Gordon and Joe Clark. Darren Drysdale is the fourth official.
