John Schofield praised his side’s determination after they beat Mansfield Town reserves 1-0 in Central League North.
Mallik Wilks’ first-half strike was enough to earn victory, and Schofield was impressed with how the Rovers Development side saw the game out.
He said: “It was a good game with a few tackles flying in, but we stuck to the task and even tried a different formation towards the end of the game.
“It’s good for Mallik to get on the scoresheet, we had some good spells of possession and when it got stretched we could have scored more.
“At the other end Louis Jones was excellent, he made some great saves and really stood up to what they threw at us.”
The game saw Shane Blaney partnered by club captain Andy Butler at the heart of defence, and Schofield says the young Irish defender will benefit massively from the experience.
He added: “Shane played on the right side of the two and that was a challenge for him which he seemed to relish.
“Butts was at the side of him constantly talking and helping him which will be a massive learning curve.”
The Development side are back in action on Monday February 25 2019 at the Keepmoat Stadium. They will compete in the Premier League U21s Cup. Kick off: 7pm.
