Assistant manager Cliff Byrne says the Rovers players have a determination to progress in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.

A win against Oldham Athletic at the Keepmoat Stadium would see Rovers progress to the fifth round for the first time in 53 years.

Byrne said: “The FA Cup is something else we can work towards, it’s a game we want to win which is the same as any club.

“We’ve faced different challenges throughout the season and the Preston game in the last round was one of those, but we stood up to it.

“We’re raising the standards here day in, day out and we want the players to push themselves as much as possible.”

As a former Oldham player, Byrne has fond memories of a successful cup run during his time at Boundary Park, including victory over Premier League side Liverpool in 2013.

He added: “Nobody would have given Oldham a chance of beating Liverpool at the time with the group of players on show, and the position we were in at the time.

“It was fantastic to be a part of, that is a game where nobody gives you a chance and it goes to show the magic of the cup will always be there.

“Every cup game is exciting for one reason or another, so it’s important that we approach the game as we would any other.”

Tickets for the game against Oldham Athletic are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
