Alfie May has said that there has been a high intensity of training this week as Rovers aim to put disappointment at Wycombe Wanderers behind them with victory against Burton Albion on Saturday.
After Rovers’ last defeat, a 3-0 Boxing Day loss at Fleetwood Town, the side bounced back with a three match winning streak, scoring 11 goals, and May believes the team will show that same resilience on Saturday.
“It’s been a good reaction this week. Everyone’s been training really well and we’re looking to put that result right on Saturday,” he said.
“It’s really important you get over the bad results quickly. You don’t want to dwell on the result, at the final whistle there’s nothing more you can do about it. You just need to get in on Monday morning, work hard and prepare right for the next game.
“We’ve gone over the things we got wrong, we’ve looked at the video and we’ve tried to improve it in training.”
Burton Albion will also be looking to bounce back from disappointment as a 9-0 defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final was followed by a 3-2 defeat at home to Gillingham last weekend.
“Burton Albion are a very, very good team,” May affirmed.
“They beat us 1-0 at their place and we have to prepare right. Playing against Man City is hard enough for anyone so they’ll be over that and they’ll be coming here to try and get the three points. We need to make sure we’ve prepared right and do the job.
“We’ve got to work hard and every single player needs to be at an 8/10.”
Rovers are at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday January 19. Tickets can be purchased at the Club Doncaster Box Office, online at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk, or 01302 764664.
