Alfie May says his 26th birthday on Wednesday was made all the more special by being able to spend it with his Rovers team-mates during the pre-season training camp at La Manga Club.
The forward has been put through his paces in Spain but luckily for him his birthday fell on a day when the players were given a lighter load to recover from the tough sessions on the opening two days of the trip to the continent.
He said: “Eight of us had a round of golf in the late afternoon, we then got together in the evening for a meal and the lads sang happy birthday - it was a nice day actually.
“Last year was the same, it’s nice to be away actually and I can’t wait for next year - hopefully I actually get a cake.”
It has been a challenging week for the players with warm-weather training, but May believes there will be real benefits as the season unfolds.
He added: “The lads are on top form and we’ve trained really hard this week. The sessions have been tough, but that is pre-season for you.
“The heat makes it really tough, but it’s really good for your fitness. We go back to Cantley Park or training on Monday and the games will come around quick starting with the trip to Rossington on Tuesday evening.”
