Strong defensively, and keen to drive on and join the attack, Halliday fits in well with the attacking football the side have become known for and which manager Darren Moore is keen to build this season.

“Gainsborough was a difficult game. The sun made it harder than it should have been but it’s another 45 minutes for myself and the other lads and we’re happy to get minutes into our legs continue looking at the other games in pre-season,” said Halliday.

“The first two pre-season games have gone well, we’ve scored a couple of goals which is great for us – that’s our DNA for this season, we want to get forward and score goals in attack.  My primary role is to defend, but a big part of my game is going forward and attacking.

“It’s hard-work but that’s what pre-season is for, it’s about getting yourself fit and now the games are coming thick and fast so we can get match fitness ready for the season.”

A friend of centre-back Joe Wright (from time spent together at Accrington Stanley), and one of the standout defenders in League Two last season, Halliday seemed a perfect fit for Rovers. The right-back was the first summer signing for Rovers in 2019 when he joined from Cambridge United.

“Towards the end of last season, Grant McCann contacted me so I passed it onto my agent. He’s moved on now but that’s just football and I wish him all the best. The new gaffer has come in it’s brilliant for myself and the rest of the lads,” he explained.

“Obviously Darren Moore hasn’t been in for too long, but at the start of next week, he’ll get us on the training pitch and put his ideas to us in how he wants to play. He’s told us he wants to keep the enthusiasm among the lads. He’s watched training a couple of times but he hasn’t said too much so far to be honest. He’s keeping that until next week.

“He wants to bring his own style of football, develop us and teach us. He’s going to express his ideas to us and develop us into a better team.”
