Reece James says he enjoyed his first 45 minutes of football in a Rovers shirt after joining the club from Sunderland.
The left-back played the first-half of a 3-0 victory at Rossington Main, and believes the squad will benefit from time on the pitch.
He said: “I thought it was a really good game and they provided us with a test, we gave a good account of ourselves.
“There is a lot of training that is put into place throughout pre-season but there is nothing like playing a game.
“It’s good for us to come down to one of the local sides and test ourselves on different types of pitches.”
Following the pre-season training camp at La Manga Club in Spain, James says the different surroundings helped him to hit the ground running.
He added: “It was something different rather than the usual things we get set in pre-season and that made it more enjoyable.
“The weather was manageable so the heat didn’t get to us, it’s good to be back now and get into the swing of playing games.”
