Darren Moore was pleased to get another 90 minutes of match fitness for his team when Rovers hosted Huddersfield Town in pre-season.
Rovers lost 2-0 to the former Premier League side and went down to 10 men after an hour, but Moore believes his players should take confidence from the performance against a high-standard of opposition.
“I said to the boys ‘please don’t be despondent’, you’ve come up against some really good opposition and you’ve got to remember that some of those Huddersfield players were playing Premier League just a few months ago,” he said.
“I was obviously disappointed with the sending off because it took the sting out of the game, it petered out after that, but up until then I was pleased with how the boys went about things. They showed good appetite and desire, and the use of the ball at times was good. We created some moments in the game where we could have taken some chances, so I was pleased with them overall.
“It was pleasing to look at the shape of the team and get another 90 minutes for fitness.”
Moore also took an opportunity after the match to address recruitment ahead of the transfer deadline on September 2.
“I always said I wouldn’t make any snap decisions. I haven’t been here for two weeks yet and I’ve allowed myself that opportunity to see the team. The players are starting to find their feet and their form now so it’s a good time to make decisions.
“There are areas that I’m going to look to try and strengthen but also the right players have got to be available. I’ve stated before, I won’t bring someone in for the sake of it, it has to be someone who will come in and impact the team.
“When a new player comes in, they will be the right one for Doncaster Rovers.”
