Darren Moore believes he learned a lot about his team during his first 10 days as Rovers manager.
Rovers continued their preparation for the 2019/20 Sky Bet League One campaign with a trip to League Two side Grimsby Town on Saturday, with the Mariners providing a step up in opposition after matches against Rossington Main, Gainsborough Trinity and FC Halifax Town.
“It was a good work out against better opposition, and I thought we started well,” said Moore.
“We controlled the ball really well throughout long periods of the game. In the second half, Grimsby changed their shape which made it more difficult for us, they stopped us playing forward so much and made it more of a game. There are things to look at and things to work on, but the fitness of the squad is improving and there were longer minutes and game time for the players.”
Moore confirmed he was looking for additional players to strengthen the side ahead of the start of the Sky Bet League One season.
“In terms of the shape of the team and the stability of the team, I thought Ben Sheaf and Ali Crawford played excellently as holding midfielders and started things off well - Joe Wright and Tom Anderson looked solid and the full backs were steady all afternoon,” he added.
“But we need to see more cutting edge, and we need to be a bit more threatening and dynamic. That will come with work on the training ground, but we’ll look to add to the squad to help push that forward. We’re working hard to find the right players to bring here to help and bolster the team.”
