Rovers U14s hosted a side from Arizona on Saturday July 26 when they welcomed SC del Sol to play a friendly at the Club Doncaster Sports Park.
The US football club is one of the biggest in the state running more than 50 teams and catering for more than 800 male and female players aged 4-18.
Rovers welcomed U14 and U13 teams as part of SC del Sol’s tour of the UK and played two matches before attending the first team’s pre-season friendly against Hull City.
Head of Academy coaching Steve Welsh said: “It was great to be able to host two teams from SC del Sol on Saturday. It didn’t stop raining all morning but all four teams played to the best of their ability and there was some great football on display. It’s good for our developing players to be able to face opposition they wouldn’t usually face and play against teams from other countries who might have slightly different ways of doing things on the pitch.
“I’m really pleased we were able to organise for both teams to come and watch the first-team play against Hull City. It meant we were able to make the day a bit more special for our visitors. We organised a tour of the stadium and for the SC del Sol team to be flagbearers and take part in the half-time activities which they seemed to enjoy. We hope they had a wonderful time in Doncaster and we look forward to hosting them again in the future.”
