John Schofield feels he is handing over the squad in the best possible condition to manager Darren Moore.
The 54-year-old took charge of the team for their 2-0 victory against Gainsborough Trinity in Rovers’ second pre-season friendly of 2019, as Moore watched from the stands.
Schofield said: “Today was another good work-out where we’ve got through two 45-minutes without conceding and without picking up any injuries.
“The managers had a real good chance to look at them and he’s spoke about a few things in training. On Friday morning he talked through what he wants us to both in and out of possession with the ball so hopefully those points have come through.
“Me, Paul Gerrard and the gaffer got our hands dirty a little bit first thing on Friday morning but it is just trying to go through this transition of seeing where the lads are before he starts stepping in because we may be four or five steps ahead from where he anticipated.”
The Rovers coach and Moore played together at Rovers in the 90s where they formed an inspiring relationship together and 22-years later they are back working together at the club.
He added: “He is honest and very clear in what he wants and how he wants to achieve it and if you’re a player working under him there will not be any grey areas. He’ll tell you the truth so you can’t ask for much more.
“He hasn’t changed much since our playing days together and there’s a time to laugh and joke and there’s time to work, he’ll be no different as he was with a player where he is laughing and joking before training but when you step out on that training pitch you’re here to work.
“The lads have been an absolute credit to themselves, the football club, the supporters with their professionalism and for me they have been no different to when myself and the rest the staff compared to now when the new gaffers come in so that’s the biggest compliment I can give them.”
