The five-week Festival of Sport in association with Get Doncaster Moving proved to be a huge success with several events taking place.

The Festival of Sport was based at the Club Doncaster Sports Park - it began with the Doncaster Junior League finals on May 6 and finished on Sunday June 9 with the Curlys Athletes Doncaster half-marathon.

There were many stand out events within the festival including the Eve Merton Dreams Trust legends match which took place on Saturday May 25 and saw Rovers legends beat Leeds United legends 7-2, with all profits going to the Eve Merton trust - a cancer charity operating in Doncaster.

Another charity hosting an event at the Festival of Sport were Doncaster Business 4 Community with both LNER and Stoneacre hosting charity sports events to in order to raise money for local charities and schools.

The Festival of Sport also played host to a number of cup finals including the Sheffield and Hallam County FA Final, Doncaster District FA final, and the Northern Counties East Football League Cup Final and, of course, the Keepmoat Cup – a two-day tournament held at the stadium.

The festival came to an end with the Curlys Athletes Doncaster half-marathon which saw thousands of people take part in the 13mile run around the town.

Club Doncaster CEO Gavin Baldwin said: “Once again the Festival of Sport has proved to be a big success with everyone from Club Doncaster working hard to ensure things came together.

“It gives people a unique experience of sampling what it is like to play on the pitch here at the Club Doncaster Sports Park, as well as presenting occasions such as the Rovers Legends going up against Leeds United Legends which raised an incredible £49,000.

“The culmination of the five weeks was the half-marathon where more than 2000 people took part, and it was good to see members of staff putting in a great effort to finish the race in good time.”
