Madger Gomes says former Rovers players Herbie Kane and Mallik Wilks convinced him to make the move to Yorkshire after speaking highly of the club following their loan spells in 2018/19.
The Spanish midfielder has penned a two-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium and becomes Rovers’ third summer signing behind right-back Brad Halliday and left-back Reece James.
Gomes said: “Just being here makes me happy, I am excited to be here and to start this new chapter of my life and career.
“I’m going to give my best and play my best football. I’m happy to be back here in England where I spent time with Liverpool and Leeds.
“Two of my friends – Herbie and Mallik – played here last season and they told me nothing but good things about this team. Hopefully next season we can do better than make the play-offs and really build on the success.”
Gomes says he is looking forward to a promotion challenge at the club after narrowly missing out on promotion last season.
He added: “A main motivation for me joining the club was the ambition which has been shown for this club and the reputation it has in developing players because last season you can see there was a lot of chances given to young players.
“I think I have a chance to do better this year, playing around better players and hopefully this can all add up to a better season for us.
“The Keepmoat is a nice stadium and hopefully we can fill the stadium because that’s what we as players want."
