Rovers sign Sunderland defender Reece James

19 June 2019

Rovers have completed the signing of Sunderland left-back Reece James on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old arrives at the Keepmoat Stadium having made 30 appearances for the Black Cats as they reached the Sky Bet League One play-off final last season.

Having started his career as a youth team product at Manchester United, he enjoyed loan spells with Rotherham and Huddersfield Town before a permanent move to Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015.

During his time at the DW Stadium, he twice won promotion from the third tier before joining Sunderland at the start of last season.

James becomes Grant McCann’s second addition of the summer, after right-back Brad Halliday signed from Cambridge United.
