Whiteman pleased with development

12 June 2019

Ben Whiteman believes the progress evident in the first-team squad during the 2018/19 season will leave the side in good stead for the upcoming campaign.

The 22-year-old has been an instrumental figure in Grant McCann’s side, collect a raft of trophies including Player Of The Season and Players’ Player of the Season at the club’s end of season awards.

He said: “There has been a massive development in the squad, under the previous regime we didn’t finish where we wanted but this year there is a lot of people who have matured in their play and that showed on the pitch.

“The older lads have helped the young lads a lot and the lads who have come in have been different class as well. They have been outstanding.”

The midfielder was one of the first names on the teamsheet in 2018/19, and he credits the manager with helping his progress.

He added: “Under Grant McCann I think I’ve come a long way as a player and I’ve made that deep-lying role my own.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing there, as a group we played very well throughout the campaign and can take a lot of pride from what we did.”
