Andy Butler says Rovers will be ready for the test that comes their way when they host Barnsley in a South Yorkshire derby on Friday night.

Rovers host their local rivals in a key clash in the Sky Bet League One promotion race at the Keepmoat Stadium, and Butler says the side will be looking to put in a strong performance against a team currently lying in second in the table.

“They’ve been a very consistent team throughout the course of the season, and they’ve proved why they are where they are in the league, we know it’ll be a tough challenge, but we believe we’re more than capable of getting three points,” he said.

“We’re playing at home and we’ve normally done very well here in front of our own fans, we’ll be looking to continue that here and what better way than with a local derby, we’ve generally put on good performances against the teams around us too.

“We know it’ll be a difficult game, what with Barnsley being such a good side so far, we were unlucky not to get three points when we played at Oakwell earlier on this season, and we want to make sure we’re coming away with the win.”

Friday’s clash with the Tykes is the first of the final 10 games of the season for Rovers, with another big game next weekend against leaders Luton Town, and Butler says the side are keen to ensure they keep up the hard work and stay in the top six come May.

“Things really take care of themselves at this stage of the season, we’re all looking forward to getting involved with the final 10 games, if you don’t know what you’re doing now then you never will, we’re all ready for what’s to come,” he added.

“We know that the top six consistent teams across the season will be in that top six come the end of the season, all we have to do is just concentrate on ourselves over the next 10 games and hopefully we’ll deserve to be in those play-off places.

“We’re looking to kick on after a solid showing in midweek, we’re looking forward to having a big crowd behind us for a local derby too, it’s a massive game and it’s one that everyone is going to be up for to try and get a positive result.”
