Cliff Byrne has reiterated that the next game is always the most important as Rovers prepare for a visit from Walsall on Saturday.
Rovers won 4-1 in the reverse fixture but Byrne is expecting a different challenge from the midlands side believing that league positions do not tell you anything about a team.
“The most important game is always the next game. Any team can give any other team a game on the day, we can’t take anything from the result at their place, it’ll be a tough match” said Byrne.
“Walsall have had some good performances which maybe haven’t given them the results they deserve. We’ll give them every respect, they carry a threat, they’ve got quality throughout the team but, like always, we’ll focus on what we do and we believe that if we perform to our potential then we’ve got a very good chance of winning the game.
“It’s going to be hard, no team gives you three points in this league, we’ve seen that all season. We have to work hard, be committed, and driven like we were on Tuesday night and if we do that, I’m sure our quality will come to the forefront."
Tuesday’s win over Bristol Rovers put an end to a difficult patch for Rovers and extended the unbeaten home league run to 11.
“A win always gives you a lift,” Bryne added.
“Wins are what we look for and strive for but when we also work hard on performance and when this team performs, we’ve always got a chance of taking three points. The focus for is on high energy and credit to the lads, that’s what they’ve been doing that so Tuesday was really rewarding for them.
“Within the group and the football club, we’ve had a strong work ethic all season and we’re not straying from that. In any business, in any walk of life if you put in a high performance, you get a high result and that’s what we’ll look to do in these final games.”
